The Resonance Radio Orchestra will present a new piece – Gaddafi in Hythe – commissioned by Radiophrenia on 16 November 2017 at CCA, Glasgow. Featuring Ed Baxter (electronics, effects, text), Tam Dean Burn (voice), Peter Lanceley (guitar, voice) and Milo Thesiger-Meacham (electronics). RRO appears on a rather blokish triple bill with Espen Sommer Eide (Norway) and Ben Knight & Tom White (Manchester/London). We’re hoping Kim Moore might join us, but have to wait and see.

A remix of Larry Shipping in der Abtei und Saaleaue bei Planena (1. Teil) is transmitted on the Radia network (series 39 show number 642) from 17 July 2017 to 23 July 17. It features the voices of Marie Anne Fliegel (speaking in German) and Peter Lanceley (singing in English). Musicians: Ed Baxter, Adam Bushell, Peter Lanceley, Kim Moore, Milo Thesiger-Meacham, James Taylor, Joe Qiu and Chris Weaver. Recordings from Radiophrenia, 106; Radio Revolten, 2016; and Telegraph Hill Festival, 2017. Made in Europe. Illustrated text is here.

Merry Christmas

As Christmas approaches even unbelievers such as ourselves (mere animals) are reminded of this image of the crucified Christ visible in the marble fireplace at The Hermit’s Cave, Camberwell Green, London SE5 (the best pub in the world), as featured in the RRO’s Larry Shipping sequence.

Radio Revolten performances

The RRO was privileged to open the ambitious and impressive Radio Revolten – Internationales Radiokunst-Festival in Halle, Germany, on Saturday 1 October. The above photo by Marcus-Andreas Mohr shows the scene as the VIPs arrived in the Konzerthalle Ulrichkirche where, ahead of Larry Shipping in The Abbey and Saaleaue at Planena (with text in German), the festival curators delivered introductory speeches to a host of radio artists, dignitaries and a wide cross section of Halle residents. The next day the Orchestra performed two works, one in French (Cinquième esquisse pour ascension et descente, with Dinah Bird) and one in Spanish (La conmemorativa lucha de boxeo de Arthur Cravan, with Emilia Portaluppi, Daniel Villar, Rodrigo Rios, and Carmen Gonzalez) – offering what we felt was a truly European repertoire, much of which we did not understand. Follow Radio Revolten on Twitter to keep abreast of news and the programme of broadcasts and live events, which continues all month.
Audio of Larry Shipping in The Abbey and Saaleaue at Planena is here, starting at 36:30.
